Four men maul, shoot Ateneo law student

MANILA - An Ateneo de Manila Law School student has been seriously injured after being shot and beaten by his fellow law students in front of his boarding house in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City Friday night. Sophomore Albert Pangcog, 29, is said to be in stable condition after undergoing an operation at the Makati Medical Center. Reports said Pangcog just alighted from a vehicle and was about to enter the boarding house when four men allegedly attacked him past 10 p.m. The men were reportedly wearing bonnets to hide their faces. Pangcog was reportedly beaten up by the men who even hit his head with a pipe. Pangcog fought back and tried to remove the bonnets concealing the suspects’ faces. This led him to identify his attackers. Soon after, Pangcog was shot on his thigh by one of the attackers before the suspects fled the scene on their own vehicle. The suspects were identified as Mark Bryan Magno and Randy Echaus, both Ateneo law students, Lyceum of the Philippines law students Mark Lester Magno and Carlos Lim. Mark Bryan was arrested inside the Ateneo law campus in Rockwell Center, Makati. He was positively identified by Pangcog when authorities brought him to the hospital and presented him to the victim. The three other suspects are still at large. The suspects’ motive is not yet known. According to the victim’s father, lawyer Alberto Pangcog, his son does not even know his attackers personally. Police declined to comment on the matter in order to protect those involved in the incident. Officials of the Ateneo law school and Mark Bryan's camp also declined to give a statement. The Ateneo law school, meantime, vowed to create a committee to investigate the incident. Report from Ryan Chua, ABS-CBN News

* I guess this incident is frat-related. But whether it's frat-related or not, shame on these guys who don't even have the balls to show their faces as they beat this poor law student!

To the attackers of this law student: You should start taking some moral fiber guys! 'Coz you don't deserve to be admitted in the legal profession!! I hope you'll serve time in jail for what you did.

Tsk! Tsk! Ayaw nalang kasi mag-aral eh.. :D

Malamang kaysa hindi, tama ang hula mo.

I don't get it. Bakit kelangan ng "brotherhood" na kagaya nito sa mundo?

"You can never be "you" if you are defined by any group you have joined, " sabi nga ni Kuya Tripper.

Masyado naman yata nilang dinibdib ang project about the nature of Culpa.

I'm guessing this will become a battle between law families. Malakas ang hula ko the Magnos are influential lawyers, that's why these law stuedents were "brave".

senseless violence. law students should observe proper decorum and prepare themselves accordingly in preparation for their chosen field. take it from one who has been there...

this is such a bad experience for him. i think this is a frat related issue but without complete basis.

i hope that the other suspects will come out.

@zweihander shame!! shame!! hehe!! :D

@DN May pinaniniwalaan naman ako sa mga objectives ng fraternity but sometimes they cross the lines of 'pagpapakatao'.

@Shattershards sabi ko nga sa post ko eh these attackers wont have the courage to beat the poor student if they dont have any connections.

@Jasonhamster hay uu nga kawawang parents

@xprosaic audience impact haha!! nice one! baka maisama pako sa mga suspects haha!!

@Lawstude i coudn't agree more lawstude. We should really listen to someone like who's been there talaga..

@Elay syempre naman Elay kahit medyo busy sa school kailangan updated, di dapat ikulong so four corners of the classroom ang mundo..

@The Dong oo nga, well the good thing is naidentify na nung victim some of the suspects so may lead na yan

this is so disturbing.
being a young parent, i can't help but think of the feelings of the victim's parents after the incident. i hope the attackers thought that too.
they have to pray hard that nothing of the same nature would happen to their own kids in the future. ewan ko, but i so believe in KARMA.

nabalitaan ko rin yan. sa tingin ko, frat wars nga.

Sad thing is, this is not the first or the last. Its part of many, a series of "I'll get you backs"

Violence should never be the answer, but who will be the first one to draw peace? Hope they both do.

I think frat brods should learn from Naruto. Para matigil na ang wari'y walang hanggang siklo ng pagganti.

is it really safe nowadays to join a fraternity?
will it bring assurance to your status in school?

HOMER said...

Guys thanks sa comments sorry late recovering from paka-WASAK last night hehe!!

UPDATE: From a friend of mine, this is really frat-related. And I know the frats that are involved. Well of course I wont disclose it here baka madamay ako haha!! :D

Brotherhood. Support. Connections in the future. That's what you get if you join a frat. There are pros and cons which a prospective member should weigh. Depends on your perspective naman yan eh, think if you really need a frat or if it would really help you. If your answer is in the affirmative why not try joining.

The thing with some frats today kasi is that they go beyond their objectives as a frat sometimes they transgressed law and morality just to so show theother frats how they are powerful over the other.

i toot my review at UP and I witnessed first hand yung yabang mga frat members. mahingan lang ng number ang girlfriend ng isa, sandamakmak na ang susugod. and there was one time na tense masyado sa campus dahil nagkabugbugan ang nagpapagalingang frat. di na lang kasi magsipag-aral ng maayos. turns out, di naman lahat sila pumapasa.
