IF I FALL

Dahil busy ako, here's a "feel-good" video muna, with AMBER PACIFIC's "IF I FALL" on the background. Well, the song's a little bit emo, but I don't know I just feel good when I hear the song. Hehe!! :D

This is for the ones who believes their lives won't change
Hoping then someday things will meant and be the same
And this is for the ones who have lost it all and all that's left to gain
Is a simple reminder that the things that were blind to slip away...

How can I say...
Say I'll be okay...

And if I fall through these days that go by without cause
Just a painful mistake has left me here on my own
And if I fall through these nights I can't seem to go on
Just a sign that you're with me gives me the strength to hold on

Now that the lines been broken
I'm too afraid to just look back
The pages have left an empty space
You were all I had
Why does it have to be this way
These things they'll never change
Still I'm left with knowing, content and happy, this is all I need...

And if I fall through these days that go by without cause
Just a painful mistake has left me here on my own
And if I fall through these nights I can't seem to go on
Just a sign that you're with me gives me the strength to hold on

And if I fall through these days that go by without cause
Just a painful mistake has left me here on my own
And if I fall through these nights I can't seem to go on
Just a sign that you're with me gives me the strength to hold on...

Quadruple Cheesy-ness

Pardon me guys. I just can't get enough of this 'cheesy-ness' haha!! Now, this time I'm posting not just one video but four videos from four great bands. So hope you bear with my cheesyness, though this is really really going to be a tough one, 'coz this is quadruple the cheesyness of my previous posts. hehe!!

DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL

First Video: This video of "Stolen" is from one of my favorite bands 'Dashboard Confessional'. From the time I've heard their song "Hands down" I felt I needed to buy their record, well I didn't, 'coz I found out my brother has one. Haha!! Too bad they've become a little bit mainstream. I wonder when are they going to have a new album.

Here's an acoustic/orchestral version! Para mas 'cheesy'! haha!! I think this track would be a nice background music on a date. (hmmm.. thought bubble insert!) haha!!

We watch the season pull up its own stakes
And catch the last weekend of the last week
Before the gold and the glimmer have been replaced,
Another sun soaked season fades away

You have stolen my heart

Invitation only, grant farewells
Crush the best one, of the best ones
Clear liquor and cloudy eyed, too early to say goodnight

You have stolen my heart

And from the ballroom floor we are in celebration
One good stretch before our hibernation
Our dreams assured and we all, will sleep well

You have stolen
You have stolen my heart

I watch you spin around in the highest heels
You are the best one, of the best ones
We all look like we feel

You have stolen my
You have stolen my heart

AMBER PACIFIC

Second Video: This is the video of Poetically Pathetic by Amber Pacific, another favorite band of mine. Amber Pacific is a Seattle band, like Nirvana. Their songs are really great from the lyrics to the arrangement. They've just released an EP with 3 new tracks on i-tunes. The new tracks are: The Good Life; Don't Let It Fall Through and The Right Place At The Wrong Time

Here's the video of "Poetically Pathetic".

I'm Thinking of the words to say,
I'd like to think that this was fate.
Reference to a song you love,
Spell confusion with a "K"
Like a star without its strings,
I'm hanging here on these two wings.
For that smile and those eyes
I'm falling

If time could stop, how could I make this more poetic?
When there's nothing more pathetic to be said

You bring me out, show me light,
I'm sorry if I hide, I'm too afraid to look inside.
You carry truth, and make me smile.
If it were you and me tonight,
I would tame the stars and save the brightest one for you,
For you...

If you ever had the chance,
Would you make your life seem right?
Or would you only hold it back,
The good times, the hard, and the bad.
Whatever you say is alright,
Just as long as there's no doubt.
Could you look me in the eye
and say hopes died?

If time could stop, how could I make this more poetic?
When there's nothing more pathetic to be said

You bring me out, show me light,
I'm sorry if I hide, I'm too afraid to look inside.
You carry truth, and make me smile.
If it were you and me tonight,
I would tame the stars and save the brightest one for you.

Our wish,
Each time,
Keeps me returning to you,
Night after night
Lift me up as high as the clouds that won the sky,
For you and I

You bring me out, show me light,
I'm sorry if I hide, I'm too afraid to look inside.
You carry truth, and make me smile,
If it were you and me tonight,
I would tame the stars and save the brightest one for you

You bring me out, show me light,
I'm sorry if I hide, I'm too afraid to look inside
You carry truth, and make me smile
If it were you and me tonight,
I would tame the stars and save the brightest one for you,
For you...

Third Video: This one's an old one, from The Police, the English Rock band in the 80's wherein Sting was the vocalist back then. The band who popularized the song "Every Breath you Take". The video you'll about to see is a performance by Sting of the song It's "Every Little Thing she does is Magic", which was an original from The Police. I guess most of you know this, because our very own Paolo Santos had a cover of this in one of his albums.

Though Ive tried before to tell her
Of the feelings I have for her in my heart
Every time that I come near her
I just lose my nerve
As Ive done from the start

Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on

Do I have to tell the story
Of a thousand rainy days since we first met
Its a big enough umbrella
But its always me that ends up getting wet

Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on

I resolve to call her up a thousand times a day
And ask her if shell marry me in some old fashioned way
But my silent fears have gripped me
Long before I reach the phone
Long before my tongue has tripped me
Must I always be alone?

Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on

LAST VIDEO: And to finish this off, I'll leave you with this song from... drum roll please! hehe! Of course the list isn't complete without a song from the band of my demi-God Kurt Cobain, Nirvana! hehe! The song is "About a Girl".

I need an easy friend
I do with an ear to lend
I do think you fit this shoe
I do what you have a clue

Ill take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I cant see you every night free
I do

Im standing in your light
I do hope you have the time
I do pick up number two
I do keep a date with you

I cant see you every night free
I do, I do, I do

CHUCK and SARAH

Anyone of you watch the series CHUCK? Chuck is an action-comedy series about an average computer whiz who receives an encoded e-mail from an old college friend now working in the CIA. The message embeds the only remaining copy of the world's greatest spy secrets into Chuck's brain.

Well, actually I am not a fan of this series and I've watched this only a couple of times. But when I am searching for the song "Crazy for this girl" by Life House on Youtube I found the video embedded below. After watching this video, I felt I need to get a copy of all the seasons of this series. Thanks there are available torrents for it!! Wohoo!!

The following is the transcript of the conversation between Sarah and Chuck, shown at the last minutes of the video.

Chuck Bartowski : Sarah, I'm not going to move in with you... Because I can't... And you know why I can't... I'm crazy about you. And I always have been. Having a fake relationship, that's one thing. But living together is... I mean everyday and being around each other and -and that's why i can't do it. I hope you understand.

Sarah Walker
: I do.
Chuck Bartowski: Thank you. [Starts to leave then stops]

Chuck Bartowski: Oh and uh just so you know, I am going to get this thing out of my head, one day. I will! And when I do, I'm going to live the life I want with the girl I love. Because I'm not going to let this thing rob me of that. I won't!

* I want to write my thoughts about the video, more particularly about the soundtrack and the conversation between Chuck and Sarah but I don't think I'm ready to blurt out whatever I am feeling right now here.. I might have a heart attack, if I did. So give this one to me! Okay?.. In time, I'll tell you my story..

By the way, you might have noticed that most of my current posts are youtube videos and that I haven't posted anything with substance and really well-thought of. Sorry guys, law school has been too demanding and so my creative will has gone down to zero. I feel like my brain's loaded by provisions of law and court cases. So please bear with my posts, and thanks to those who continue to appreciate them. ☻☻☻

I'd Like That

(Actual Intro to the song)
This song's about... talkin to the person you haven't even met yet.
Maybe they're rollin' around in the hay with someone else,
but they're not as good as you'll be... you just have to wait your turn.
She's out there, he's out there,
they're just learning what to contrast you against.

Stay at home alone on a Friday
Flat on my floor looking back
On old love
Or lack thereof
After all the crushes have faded
And all my wishful thinking was wrong
I'm jaded
I hate it

I'm tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here
So tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here
Get here..

Searching all my days just to find you
Not sure who I'm looking for
I'll know it
When I see you
Till then, I'll hide in my bedroom
Just staying up all night just to write
A love song for no one

I'm tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here
I'm so tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here

I could have met you in a sandbox
I could have passed you on the sidewalk
Could I have missed my chance
And watched you walk away?
Oh no away
yadadadada
dadadada
dadada..

I could have met you in a sandbox
I could have passed you on the sidewalk
Could I have missed my chance
And watched you walk away?

I'm tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here
So tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here
You'll be so good
You'll be so good for me
Ohh I know you'll be so good for me
For me

Heard the song "Love Song for No One" in my mp3 player and can't stop singing . Really love the way he sings and the messages of his songs, especially this one. The lyrics really hit me, at this very moment when I need someone.

I recalled that John Mayer has a really awesome video of it in one of his concerts so I checked my files, lucky I still have it. This is from John Mayer's "Any Given Thursday" Concert. The video I posted is from YOUTUBE, but I have a copy,if you want, just leave me a message.

I also found in my files this transcript of John Mayer's amazing intro to the song Love Song for No one.
The Song + this introductory speech or whatever you might call it= EPIC!

John Mayer: So I was thinkin' about relationships and about how it pertains to songs about relationships, And uh, I was trying to think, well it occurred to me that the key, I figured out the key to a relationship and how to make it work.

Check it out, this is, this is, a tip from your uncle John, check it out. When you first meet somebody, you find out they like you, first of all, a friend of a friend of theirs say, he or she really really likes you, and it kills you, floors you, sends you to the ground, you've got to pick yourself up off the ground; then you get their phone number and you call them up, right, and you say "Yeah, that's a really great phone conversation, can I see you some time?" and then they say this, they say, "I'd like that." Nothing feels better than "I'd like that".

So now, your blood pressures' goin, you're six feet off the ground, you can't sleep, because of "I'd like that". So then you hang out for a while, and you call and you talk on the phone all the time, and then you drop the bomb, what feels like the bomb, you say, "You know what, I've been thinkin about you a lot." And she goes, "Ahhhhhhh!" And you go "What happened?" and she goes, "I'm sorry, I just, I just, I just, that's, I've been thinking about you too." Bam. Higher into the sky. But now "I'd like that." Tch. Done. Now you're up to "I'm thinkin about you."

Then however number of months pass, it makes you feel comfortable saying it, you say "I gotta tell you something." They go "What?", you go "I'm in love with you." And nothing in the world sounds better than "I'm in love with you." And then maybe she starts crying, or maybe he goes "*gasp*". And all the sudden you're like "I'm in." But now what doesn't work?; "I'd like that." and "I've been thinkin about you." Now we're at "I'm in love with you." Then maybe some day it'll move up to "I love you." Fast forward, now you're like "I love you a lot; I love you more than anything in life." Now "I love you." doesn't work. It's a threshold that keeps movin up. Fast forward, like six months, six weeks, whatever the case may be, now you're on like, "I want to marry you." "I want to impregnate you with my love." "I wanna, I wanna just send my love to you." "Damn it, words don't work anymore." And then you say this line, and you know, you know you've used this line before, "I just wish they'd put a new word in the dictionary bigger than love because love just doesn't describe what I feel." And so now he or she starts askin, "Do you love me?" and you start goin, "Of course I love you." "Well say it." And then it becomes "Say it twice." And it goes "Say it three times." And then, you cross a really interesting point, where all the sudden it becomes "I hate you, I hate you." And you go, "Oh my god she hates me." And now it's like "I hate you more than anything." And then it's like "We're over." And then they go "No we're not." And you go "Yes we are." Now the words completely do not work at all, you're left with nothing. You're throwing punches under water. You're done. You know what the moral of that story is, if there is one. Never, ever, ever, ever underestimate the power of "I'd like that."
[laughs]

Heavier than Heaven (A Kurt Cobain Biopic)

TOP: L-R, Kurt Cobain; Ryan Gosling BOTTOM: L-R, Courtney Love; Scarlett Johansson

Shame on me! I'm starting to hate myself a little bit. How could I be so damn late in finding out that there's a movie coming out based on Kurt Cobain's biography. What kind of a hardcore fan am I?

Anyway, I know I can forgive myself for that in time. So according to the website where I found the information.

* The movie is based on Charles Cross's biography of Cobain, "Heavier than Heaven", which would likewise be the title of the movie.
* Courtney Love, executive producer, has said she wants actor Ryan Gosling to play her late husband Kurt Cobain in a film. (Well for those who don't know her she's the widow of Kurt Cobain and the mother of their child Frances Bean Cobain)
* Courtney who seems to be a fan of Scarlett Johansson wants that she portray her.

Well, I just hope Courtney, as executive producer won't make a trash out of this movie. But I SERIOUSLY DOUBT that the hardcore fans and loyalists would really appreciate the film, if up to now, the truth about Kurt Cobain's death has been a mystery for some and it's a fact that Love is being said to be involved in Kurt's death.

Now, based on Rollingstones Magazine pre-production has finally kicked-off, and the initial casts of the film aside from Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Gosling are:

Justin Long as Krist Noveselic, Nirvana's bassist
Topher Grace
as Dave Grohl
, Nirvana's drummer
Cate Blanchett
as Eric Erlandson
, served as Singer, guitarist, and songwriter for Nirvana Jake Gyllenhaal as Axl Rose of the Guns 'N Roses
Jack Black
as King Buzzo, (Buzz Osbourne)

Emile Hirsch
as Eddie Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam

Toni Collette
as Kim Gordon
, of Sonic Youth
Ron Jeremy
as Tad Doyle
, of the band TAD

L-R: Dave Grohl, Kurt Cobain and Krist Noveselic

Now, this isn't the first film about Kurt Cobain, if I am not mistaken i posted a review on some of them. Two of his films which was released internationally are "Last Days" in 2005, which is about a theory on how Kurt Cobain spent his last days, and "About a Son" in 2006 which basically tells a story of his childhood until he reached stardom.

I can't wait to see this new film!, and if ever I won't make it to the cinemas in time for it's showing, I promise you guys I'll commit suicide! Kiddin'! haha!!!

Four men maul, shoot Ateneo law student

MANILA - An Ateneo de Manila Law School student has been seriously injured after being shot and beaten by his fellow law students in front of his boarding house in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City Friday night. Sophomore Albert Pangcog, 29, is said to be in stable condition after undergoing an operation at the Makati Medical Center. Reports said Pangcog just alighted from a vehicle and was about to enter the boarding house when four men allegedly attacked him past 10 p.m. The men were reportedly wearing bonnets to hide their faces. Pangcog was reportedly beaten up by the men who even hit his head with a pipe. Pangcog fought back and tried to remove the bonnets concealing the suspects’ faces. This led him to identify his attackers. Soon after, Pangcog was shot on his thigh by one of the attackers before the suspects fled the scene on their own vehicle. The suspects were identified as Mark Bryan Magno and Randy Echaus, both Ateneo law students, Lyceum of the Philippines law students Mark Lester Magno and Carlos Lim. Mark Bryan was arrested inside the Ateneo law campus in Rockwell Center, Makati. He was positively identified by Pangcog when authorities brought him to the hospital and presented him to the victim. The three other suspects are still at large. The suspects’ motive is not yet known. According to the victim’s father, lawyer Alberto Pangcog, his son does not even know his attackers personally. Police declined to comment on the matter in order to protect those involved in the incident. Officials of the Ateneo law school and Mark Bryan's camp also declined to give a statement. The Ateneo law school, meantime, vowed to create a committee to investigate the incident. Report from Ryan Chua, ABS-CBN News

* I guess this incident is frat-related. But whether it's frat-related or not, shame on these guys who don't even have the balls to show their faces as they beat this poor law student!

To the attackers of this law student: You should start taking some moral fiber guys! 'Coz you don't deserve to be admitted in the legal profession!! I hope you'll serve time in jail for what you did.

Tsk! Tsk! Ayaw nalang kasi mag-aral eh.. :D

Get Up

"And I feel the way I feel because I need you all the time
And I know the things you know but that’s just not enough to make you mine
And I won’t do anything that it might compromise this time so I’ll just sit and hold my breath only that’s not enough to make you mine.."

Haayzzz... :(

Here's the full lyrics...

Sometimes it's not that time
For things I cannot hear
For words I cannot feel
The way you want to go
It makes me feel like shit
I'm last but that's not it
I wonder if she'll care
For me ever again
Waiting for the last time
I'm waiting for the right time
To see if she will know the things
She doesn't say to me

Chorus
And I feel the way I feel because I
Need you all the time and I
Know the things you know but that's just
Not enough to make you mine
And I won't do anything that it might
Compromise this time so
It's not enough to make you mine

Get up it's time to die
Just guess and don't ask why
Lately you just don't try
Someday we will fly
Higher than the satellites
Into a spacial paradise
Where up is up and down is down
And no one is around
(I don’t want to see you crying)
(Let’s leave)
(The dramatics behind)

Thirsty Thursdays at FRIDAY's

I've always been fascinated with "Flair bartending", you know that skill wherein bartenders manipulate bar tools such as cocktail shakers and liquor bottles to entertain guests or customers. So last Thursday I went out with some friends at T.G.I.F. (Friday's) to grab some drink and enjoy the night with some cool bartenders.

This is JP and JM, the bartenders

In this pic you can see an American talking to JM. The American challenged JM to do a flair versus JP. Our group were the judges of the mix JP and JM did. And the verdict!, JP's mix won!

JM doing the Flair!!

Now, if you thought bartenders only know bottle manipulation, think twice! In this act, JM challenged us to a mind game. And since I like challenges especially mind games I relentlessly tried this trick, but in the end I gave up! The beer didn't help! hehe!

You can try this trick by following this steps:
1. Form adjacent or interconnected squares like the one shown above. Use sticks or anything appropriate to form the squares.
2. Now, challenge yourself or anyone to make the 7 adjacent squares into 5 adjacent squares in SIX MOVES. By SIX MOVES, I mean, you only have to move 6 sticks and move it to your desired position.
3. Now the 5 squares must still be interconnected or adjacent and it should still be of the same size.

Now this image is AMAZING! This ain't a trick but Science, probably Physics or Chemistry has some explanation to it. The brandy and water, both in different shotglasses, will be transferred from the other's container. ( shotglass where the water is contained will now have the brandy and vice versa)

There are more tricks but I forgot how it works, it's either I'm busy chatting or medyo umepekto na ang beer, hehe! So yan na lang muna! hehe!!

*By the Way Happy 4th of July Guys! hehe!! :D

Tama Ka

"Kay-sarap sariwain ang malayang kahapon, Ang hirap isiping kay-layo ng Noon.."

I was playing my mp3 file of this song "TAMA KA" all over and over when I woke up. Wala lang sarap pakinggan.

I just love B-sides.. And this one from Eraserheads is one of their best B-sides. It's from their album Natin99. It's so ironic that they had this song written before they disbanded. Listen to the lyrics and you do the Math.

Responsible Thoughts

*The following is a conversation between a classmate and Ely Buendia, who both attended a wake of an ex-Law-Schoolmate.

N: Hi! I'm N and you are?
Ely B. (flabbergasted): Ahm.. I'm Ely.. Ely Buendia.

WTF! I was laughing my ass out when I've heard this from my friend who attended the wake of an ex-Law-Schoolmate's father. Too bad I wasn't there to meet Ely face to face, because of that friggin' subject in school. Now back to N. With her age I was surprised that she didn't know Ely Buendia. I wondered what's her life was during her teenage years. But that's her. I know she's so absorbed by her work, law school and plus the fact that she has to allot her time for his family. Now considering all these, I don't think N could really have a social life with all her responsibilities. I even doubt that she even has the time to watch TV or read a newspaper and be updated with the entertainment industry. So I forgive her for not knowing Ely, or even The Eraserheads. Haha!!

Now, I'd like to talk about the word RESPONSIBILITY. We all have our own responsibilities. From the time we were born up to the time we get old, the word does not leave our side. Our dad would even proclaim from the first time you were born that his son or daughter will be the greatest lawyer, doctor or whatever. From that point on we were given the responsibility by our parents to strive hard in achieving our dreams, though impliedly.

Responsibility takes various forms. Responsibility to our family, Responsibility to our friends, Responsibility to our partners, Responsibility to the girl we impregnated, Responsibility to fellow bloggers, Responsibility to our boss in the company we are working, Responsibility to our country, Responsibility to the world, Responsibility to the society. But I believe the hardest responsibility that we have to deal with is RESPONSIBILITY to OURSELVES.

I must admit that I am having a hard time being responsible of everything that concerns me. I know I am responsible for my health and no doctor nor medicine would treat whatever ailment I have or will have if I won't stop abusing myself and start a healthy lifestyle. I know I have the responsibility to get if not good grades at least passing marks in school, but what am I doing, I am procrastinating a lot and cannot focus on studying. My parents don't even know yet that I won't graduate next year. I just hope I'd be able to muster the guts to tell them soon.

Tsk! Tsk! Emo na naman ako. hehe!!

Eto na lang!

According to my own analysis and thought process there are only two kinds of Responsibilities. Those that are 1)Assumed voluntarily; or 2)Imposed upon, hence there are only two kinds of people based on the responsibilities they take, the ASSUMPTIONISTAs and THE-PUSH-and-PULL.

ASSUMPTIONISTAs(Sometimes called the 'PASAN'- (short for Pasan ang daigdig) or the common term MARTYR)

When a responsibility is assumed voluntarily the one taking it believes in himself that he can do whatever that task or deed is. Assumptionistas are often jack-of-all trades. They have this versatile personality which is a plus-factor because they can actually enter whatever endeavour they want. There are critics who dubbed them as "e-pals" because sometimes their act of volunteerism goes over the top.

A person who voluntarily assumes responsibility is admirable to some extent but some are frowned upon because sometimes there are those who voluntarily assume responsibilities but in the end cannot even execute.

The PUSH and PULL (From the definition of FORCE in Physics)

These people are the ones who are obliged, compelled or forced to take upon a responsibility which they are not absolutely willing to take but because they are either overpowered or there is moral ascendancy on the part of the one imposing such responsibility they give in and accept it.

Push-and-pull people are pitiful on the one hand and admirable in the other. Pitiful because they don't have the strength to express their disagreement to the imposition of the responsibility. Admirable, because of the respect that they have for their superiors or the people with the moral ascendancy giving the responsibility.

I think at some point in our lives we've experienced being an ASSUMPTIONISTA or a PUSH-AND-PULL. There are pros and cons but I guess being in either of those categories would make us realize and learn a lot of things, because a responsibility assumed or imposed, big or small creates a sense of pride and joy in all of us if we have succeeded in fulfilling it.

*By the way I remember a film which centers on the concept RESPONSIBILITY. Try to watch "Babel", the one by Brad Pitt!, one awesome movie!

An Atheist Ad

[The following is an article from the June 25, 2009 New York Times City Room Blogs by DANIEL SLOTNIK, I thought I'd share]

Advertisements proselytizing toothpaste and jeans do not make us question our beliefs. But a series of posters on city buses promoting atheism is intended to do just that.

An Atheist Bus Campaign has arrived in New York. The ads, which say “You don’t have to believe in God to be a moral and ethical person,” underscored by the URL for the New York City Atheists Inc. Web site, will appear on about 20 city buses.

Ken Bronstein, the president of New York City Atheists, a New York affiliate of American Atheists, planned the commercials. He said the posters will only run on Manhattan bus lines, and some members of his organization had already noticed them.

The ads will remain on buses for about a month and will be officially introduced at a news conference on Saturday at Columbus Circle in front of the Time Warner Center at 1 p.m.

“This was a test campaign,” Mr. Bronstein said, adding that he hoped to expand the commercials to the other boroughs in two to three months.

The New York commercials were inspired by the first Atheist Bus Campaign in London last January. They were put on 800 buses in response to a campaign by a Christian group whose relatively innocuous messages contained a URL for a Web site that warned that nonbelievers would “spend all eternity in torment.”

The New York messages are not in response to any such statements, but merely intended to build on what creators believe was the success of the London campaign. Mr. Bronstein said it was something of a challenge to draft a message that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York deemed acceptable.

“I had to be very careful in what they would accept,” Mr. Bronstein said. It took time “to find a statement that we thought was positive, it wasn’t bashing religion and it wasn’t huge.”

Joseph Zwilling, the director of communications for the Archdiocese of New York, said the ads were not offensive in the Catholic Church’s view, given their wording.

“It’s a free country, and they’re allowed to say whatever they want on the side of buses,” Mr. Zwilling said. “They’re not attacking or disparaging the Church as far as I can see.”

Mr. Zwilling said the archdiocese occasionally runs ads in the transit system, usually on the subway. He said the ads “were designed more to invite Catholics back to the practice of their faith.”

The advertisements cost more than $10,000 and were paid for by an anonymous donor.

Jane Everhart, the director of communications for New York City Atheists, said that one goal of the campaign was to increase membership.

Mr. Bronstein said he was more focused on establishing “atheist pride” and promoting acceptance of atheism.

“I’ve had people call me in tears, and tell me they thought they’d never see a sign promoting atheism in New York,” he said.

Mr. Bronstein said he thought American society was opening up to atheism because of a series of events he referred to as an “atheism awakening,” like the publication of best-sellers on atheism by writers like Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens.

But the moment he was certain atheism was acceptable was when he heard President Obama’s inaugural address, which included a reference to “nonbelievers” among an enumeration of various religions.

Ms. Everhart thought it was about time.

“People who are religious have been advertising for generations,” she said. “But atheists never have. We have not come out, and this is part of our coming out.”
