Protest Votes?

From Left: Francis Escudero, Alan Peter Cayetano, Koko Pimentel, and Antonio Trillanes

Absolutely. I believe the results of the elections, although not yet final, show how the voters voiced out their disgust with the GMA Government. The way the Genuine Opposition continues to dominate the COMELEC tally could attest to this. At least eight of GO candidates managed to stay in the top 12. Surprisingly, Trillanes, who never got the chance to campaign outside as he was still behind bars in Fort Bonifacio, is actually consistent in top 12.

As one political analyst said: “Sawa na ang mga botante”.. Very true. I think the voters want change and they actually want it now. And they voted for politicians who they think could effect the change they want. A lot of first-timers in the Senate bid ran during the last elections. There’s Alan Peter Cayetano, Francis Escudero, Koko Pimentel and others. All of them promising to fight for corruption and continuing their advocacies towards change in the government. Well, let’s just hope they do.

Another political analyst said: “Politicians should be concerned that this country is a mess”. Very true again. And I hope the newly-elected officials could clean up the mess that the government never dared to throw away, as they were busy creating a few more mess.
